About NZCPA

The New Zealand Cricket Players Association (NZCPA) is an Incorporated Society registered under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908. The Chief Executive reports to an executive Board of Directors, which is elected by the full members on an annual basis.

Governance

The NZCPA is governed by an executive Board of eight directors.

Current playing members from each of the six Major Associations elect a Board member to represent them on the NZCPA Board. The final two Board positions are filled by independent directors with current playing members advancing nominations to fill these two positions on the NZCPA Board. The Board of directors are confirmed at the Annual General Meeting.

Membership

Membership of the NZCPA is made up of current New Zealand First Class and International cricketers, as well as past players and the women's White Ferns squad.

To become an NZCPA member a person must fit the following criteria:

1. Current Players automatically become members to the NZCPA, as they hold a current Major Assoication (MA) or New Zealand Cricket playing contract, or if they have played for their MA team during the current season. This category will typically have 15-20 squad players from each MA, as well as the 20 NZ Cricket contracted players.

2. Past Players are eligible to join the NZCPA as associate members, if they have played any form of first-class cricket such as Plunket Shield, National One Day or T20 competitions. Membership also extends to cricket players who have played against touring international sides or have held a playing contract with New Zealand Cricket or any of the Major Associations.

Additionally, current New Zealand Cricket Women's International representative squad members are eligible to join as associate members of the NZCPA.

1. Ensure the best possible professional cricket environment in New Zealand for our players and look to influence international environments where possible;

2. Assist players in their overall development, both on and off the field;

3. Create and deliver an effective network for all members to connect with the game and each other;

4. Contribute to the promotion and development of cricket;


Strategy


1. Ensure the best possible professional cricket environment in New Zealand for our players and look to influence international environments where possible;
  • Have good functional relationships with New Zealand Cricket and the six Major Associations.
  • Effectively manage the Master Agreement between NZC, NZCPA and the six Major Associations.
  • Business relationships: establish commercial relationships which assist the NZCPA to achieve its purpose.
  • Work with other stakeholders and members to maximise the revenue opportunities in professional cricket.
  • Support and be an active contributor to FICA.
  • Assist our members to gain international exposure and support them in a global workplace environment.


2. Assist players in their overall development, both on and off the field;
  • Expose players to best practice in business.
  • All players to have a career transition plan.
  • Quality risk management and support networks in place that are valued by players.


3. Create and deliver an effective network for all members to connect with the game and each other;
  • New members inducted appropriately.
  • Deliver a quality events programme for past player members.
  • Connect all members through an electronic network.
  • Manage a comprehensive business club.
  • Support and be an active contributor to FICA.
  • Facilitate ongoing commercial opportunities around the game for members.


4. Contribute to the promotion and development of cricket;
  • Take the game of cricket to new communities and players.
  • Develop and management programmes that promote the cricket.
  • Assist other stakeholders in the development and promotion of cricket.
  • Utilise past players to support programmes.

2011
- First NZCPA Player conference held in Auckland

2010
- Ground Breaking eight year Master Agreement executed between NZCPA, NZC and the six Major Associations.
- NZCPA agree partnership with CricHQ

2009
- NZCPA Board appoints inaugural Patron

2008
- Procricket website launched (www.procricket.co.nz)
- NZCPA launch MVP rankings in New Zealand

2007
- NZCPA 'Masters Team' established
- NZCPA begins management of the annual Masters Tournament
- NZC License and Merchandising Programme management rights are agreed between NZCPA and NZC

2006
- Successfull negotiation of the second Master Agreement between NZCPA, NZC and the six Major Associations
- Established NZCPA 'Players Golf Day'
- Established 'Career and Personal Development Programme'

2005
- Launched 'Hooked on Cricket' community programme
- Created NZCPA Benevolent Hardship Fund
- Established NZCPA Past Player Membership Category

2004
- Launch of NZCPA quarterly 'Outright' newsletter
- Establishment of NZCPA Performance awards programme

2003
- Grounds Warrant of Fitness introduced to domestic cricket
- Launch of NZCPA website (www.nzcpa.co.nz)
- Launch of NZCPA Business Club

2002
- Launch of NZCPA group medical scheme
- Successfully negotiates a Master Agreement between NZCPA, NZC and the six Major Associations. A milestone achievement that sees 20 international and 72 domestic contracts offered for the first time. The Agreement signifies the beginning of an improved professional cricket environment in New Zealand.

2001
- Joins Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA)
- New Zealand Cricket Players Association was founded by the players (NZCPA)
